Behind the Work

While working as Creative Director at the agency Moccu, I contributed to the design of ZDF’s second-screen sports platform used for major national and international events. The focus was on creating a clear, adaptable experience capable of supporting complex live content while remaining intuitive and accessible.

The platform was designed to handle several simultaneous livestreams, different camera angles and evolving editorial needs. The UX had to adapt seamlessly to very different formats, from fast-paced football matches to multi-discipline Olympic competitions. Working closely with an UX Lead, developers and editorial teams, we shaped an interaction model that allowed users to navigate up to seven parallel streams and switch perspectives using the My View feature.

The goal was to create a resilient and flexible system that could scale across years of tournaments. The platform remains in active use by ZDF today.

Results That Matter

During the European Championship, the platform reached 17 million visits and 71 million page impressions. The Germany vs Poland match alone generated 1.5 million visits with up to 750,000 parallel livestreams.

I also had the opportunity to work on other second-screen projects for ZDF, including the crime series Die letzte Spur and the entertainment show Wetten, dass..?. These projects broadened my understanding of second-screen usage across genres and strengthened my ability to design experiences that complement live content in different contexts.

On a personal level, I deeply enjoyed working with ZDF as a client. These years remain very positive memories for me. I had the chance to collaborate with teams that were professional, curious and open to shared learning, experimentation and new ideas. This environment allowed me to grow significantly as a designer and creative director while contributing to meaningful and forward-thinking digital experiences.
